The stock
The tab's title names the session shown — "Stock: Personal" — and tapping it switches to another; see Sessions.
The Stock tab lists everything you have, in alphabetical order — one product per row, however many places it is stored in.
Reading a row
Each row starts with a round avatar: the product's photo, or its first two letters when it has none. Then come the name, the total quantity in a pill — ×4 for a product counted by the piece, 1.5 kg or 250 mL for one with a unit —, then the category and the location — or "2 locations" when the product is stored in several places. The last line is the nearest deadline among the batches still in stock, and it changes colour with urgency: red for an expired batch, orange as the date approaches, grey when it is far off. When the product has several batches, the location of the pressing one is shown next to it.
A product with no expiry date shows no third line.
Searching
The search field filters on the item name.
Sorting
The funnel icon at the top opens the list menu. "Sort by" sets the order: by name, by location, by date added or by expiry date, each in either direction. The current criterion and direction stay ticked. Items missing the data being sorted on — no expiry date, say — always sit at the end.
Filtering
In the same menu, "Filter…" opens the filter: tick one or more locations, one or more categories (or "No category"), and narrow down to items added or made in the last 7, 30 or 90 days. Criteria combine.
The icon turns coloured as soon as a filter is active, and the menu counts the criteria. If the list looks empty, that is the first place to look; "Clear the filter" in the menu or under the empty list, or "Clear all" in the sheet, resets everything.
Scanning: the code, the date, done (TrackInvent Pro)
The barcode icon, left of the +, opens a camera that reads the barcode and the expiry date together, in whichever order you like. Two boxes at the bottom, Code and Date, fill in as you go; as soon as both are there, the product is put away, a green banner confirms it, and the camera stays open for the next one. Putting groceries away is: aim at the code, aim at the date, product after product.
- Product already in stock: nothing opens. One unit joins the batch with the same date in the scan's location, or forms a new batch if the date differs (the app never mixes two dates under one quantity). The banner shows the batch quantity between a − and a +, with the change since the scan underneath (+1 in green, −1 in red) — the + is what makes ×2 for a second yogurt — and All batches opens the full sheet.
- Unknown product: a small assistant opens, pre-filled — name, category and photo from Open Food Facts when the product is listed there, the date read, use-by or best-before as the packaging says, location, quantity. Fix anything with a tap, the checkmark, and the camera resumes. The record's Nutri-Score and Eco-Score, when they exist, come along: one discreet line in the product sheet, nothing more.
- No date (pasta, cans): the button of the same name puts it away with the code alone. Re-read the date clears a doubtful reading.
- The location things go to is in the top bar: the one of the last scan in this session, changed with a tap and remembered for the next ones.
After the first product, the camera waits for the code before the date — so the previous product's date, still in view, does not stick to the next one. And the product just put away is not put away a second time until another code has been read: a camera left on the packet multiplies nothing; for a second unit, the + on the banner.
Without a compatible camera, typing the digits remains: unknown product, the creation sheet opens; known product, the batches sheet — one line per location and per date, − on the left, + on the right, the change since opening under the number. That sheet stays reachable from the scan banner and from the item sheet.
An item created by hand gets its code in its sheet: Scan or Type the Code. An item that has a code can take the Open Food Facts photo from its image menu, to crop like a photo of your own. Without a compatible camera, the digits under the code can be typed. A 12-digit code (UPC-A) and the same one with a leading zero (EAN-13) mean the same product: two readers do not always return the same thing.
Reading the printed date (TrackInvent Pro)
Under every expiry date — when creating, in a batch of the item sheet, in the
scan adjustment — the Read the date on the packaging button opens the camera.
Aim at the date: as soon as it is recognised it shows at the bottom, along with what
was read; Use this date — or the checkmark at the top — sets it. The app understands the usual forms —
15/12/2026, 15.12.26, 15 SEP 2026, DEC 2026, months in French and German
(15 SEPT 2026, 15. Okt. 2027) — and, when only the month is printed, keeps the
last day of that month. The words around the date tell what it means when the
packaging prints them: use by, « à consommer jusqu'au », zu verbrauchen bis give a
use-by date; best before, BBE, « de préférence avant », mindestens haltbar bis,
MHD a best-before date. A date too old or too far off for a
product is ignored; if there are several, the nearest upcoming one is offered.
Nothing is stored or sent: reading happens on the device.
Without a compatible camera, the button offers to take a photo or choose an image from the library, read the same way.
The shelf photo (TrackInvent Pro)
For a whole shelf at once, with no barcodes: in the scanner, the Shelf photo button (the picture), top right. Take a photo of the shelf — straight on, close, in good light — or choose one from Photos. The app reads the text on the packaging on the device, groups it box by box and, when Apple Intelligence is available, turns it into clean names, the number of items ("×6"), the size ("500 g") and one of your categories. Without Apple Intelligence, the packaging as it was read.
Then the list, to review: untick what isn't a product, correct a name, adjust the quantity, choose where to put it away, and the checkmark stores everything. A product the session already knows gets one more batch; a new one is created, its size as description. Batches have no date: read it on each packaging when you open the product — or with the scanner, product by product.
The photo is neither kept nor sent. With Private Cloud Compute chosen in Options › Assistant, only the text that was read leaves, encrypted, not retained.
Quantities
A quantity is typed on the keyboard — up to three decimals, 1.333 — and the − and + buttons step by 1. "Used" removes one unit (1 piece, 1 kg, 1 L…) and stops at zero. "Thrown away", next to it, empties the batch at once — and both are recorded in the history. The app does not convert between units: it is not a scale.
Stock value
Give products a price (in the product sheet, optional) and the bottom of the list adds it up: "Stock value: $118.18" — price × quantity, all batches included, in the device's currency. The line follows what the list shows: the whole session, or only the current filter (a location, a category). Without any price, it does not appear. The same value is shown for each session in Options › Sessions.
One product, several batches
A product is what you buy: a name, a photo, a code, a category. A batch is what you store: a quantity, in a location, with an expiry date. The same milk bought twice with two dates, or kept in the fridge and in the cellar, stays one row in the stock — and its sheet shows every batch.
Each batch alerts on its own date, and two batches in the same location with the same date become one.
Opened on
A mayonnaise keeps for months sealed, three weeks opened; a glue, six months after opening, with no printed date at all. In the product sheet, After opening › Keeps for less time once opened and the number of days. Then, when you open a batch: swipe it to Opened — in the Alerts tab, or in the Stock (the product's most urgent batch, then) — or, in its sheet, the Opened switch and the date. Its expiry date moves closer if the rule gives an earlier one, and becomes a use-by date; a batch without a date gets one. Alerts, reminders, widget: everything follows, since it is the batch's date that changes. Without a rule on the product, "Opened on" is just a note.
Last time
When creating a batch without a date — in the sheet, or for a new product whose category is chosen — a button offers "Last time: 7 days → Sept 27": the time between the previous batch's entry into stock and its date, for the same product, otherwise a product of the same category. One tap sets the date; nothing forces you.
Selecting several items
The list menu (the funnel) then "Select Items", or a long press on a row then "Select", puts a checkbox in front of every item. All ticks the whole list on screen — the current filter and search count.
The bottom bar acts on the selection:
- Move to another location — or to another session: batches go to the location with the same name there, or the first one; the category is reused or created; a product the session already has receives the batches;
- Category: assign another one, or remove it;
- Duplicate: a copy of each item, identical in everything but its date added, which is today's;
- ⋯: Share the selection as text — one line per batch — to Notes, Messages, Mail…; or AI, a request to the assistant with your ready-made sentences, as in Alerts;
- Delete, after a confirmation that says how many items go.
A long press on an item offers the same actions for that item alone, without going through selection: Move (to a location or another session), Category (its own ticked), Duplicate, Share, AI, Select to take more, and Delete.
The two gestures
Swipe left to delete. You are asked to confirm: deletion is permanent.
Swipe right on Used to remove one unit — from the batch that expires first, the order in which you use things up. The quantity goes down by one and the product stays in the list even at zero — deliberately: a product that vanishes on its own is a product you forget to buy again.
An item's image
At the top of the sheet, the avatar in large and Choose an Image: Take a Photo with the camera, or from Photos or Files. The app only sees the image you pick, never your whole library, and a photo you take does not go into the library. A cropping sheet follows: drag to recentre, pinch to zoom, the circle shows what will be kept. The image is saved with the sheet, in a small format; Remove the Image brings the initials back.
Without an image, the avatar shows the first two letters of the name. Initials… lets you choose others — up to three letters or digits, "SSM" for semi-skimmed milk — and Automatic Initials goes back to the name's.
The colour of the ring around the avatar is set in Options › General.
The sheet
Tap a row to open the sheet. At the top, the product: image, name, description, price, category, unit (piece, kg, g, mg, L, cL, mL, m³), barcode. Below, the Batches section: one line per batch — "Kitchen fridge · ×2 · expires on 17 Sept" — which you tap to edit (location, quantity, dates, and use by or best before — what the date means, see Alerts), swipe to remove, and Add a Batch to create one. The Restock section sets a threshold: Warn when fewer than… are left — below it, the product moves to To buy again. Nothing is written until the checkmark, top right; if you leave with pending changes, the app asks what to do with them. The Delete the item button, at the very bottom, removes the product and all its batches, after confirmation.
